According to word on the grapevine, the OnePlus 11 will be the successor to the OnePlus 10 Pro. The 2023-bound flagship was initially tipped to sport powerful camera hardware but it now appears OnePlus has no plans to do that, instead choosing to equip its next-gen premium phone with a 50 MP main camera already used on the OnePlus 9 Pro.
Yesterday, a new report established OnePlus’s plans to launch its main flagship phone for 2023 as the OnePlus 11 and not the OnePlus 11 Pro as expected. Details of the OnePlus 11’s rear camera system have now been revealed, and it appears OnePlus’s next flagship phone will remain inferior to the best camera smartphones on the market.
Prior leaks already revealed that the OnePlus 11—initially assumed to be the OnePlus 11 Pro—is set to be equipped with a 50 MP main camera, 48 MP ultra-wide camera, and 32 MP telephoto camera. Digital Chat Station has now provided the identities of the sensors behind those lenses: the main camera will be the IMX766, the ultra-wide-angle one the IMX581, and the 32 MP zoom camera the IMX709.
Early leaks claimed the OnePlus 11 could debut with a 1-inch sensor but that camera only looks destined for the OPPO Find X6 Pro. Instead, it will sport the IMX766, which, while capable, is a far cry from the best sensors on the market. For some perspective, the IMX766 has a sensor size of 1/1.56″ and is mostly positioned as the sensor of choice in the mid-range, finding use on phones like the OnePlus Nord 2 and Nothing Phone (1).
