ASUS unveiled the ROG Strix G18 at CES 2023 with a gigantic 18-inch display and top-of-the-line internals from Intel and NVIDIA. The ROG Strix G18 configuration with an Intel Core i9-13980HX, an RTX 4080 GPU, 16 GB of DDR5-4800 memory, and 1 TB of PCIe Gen 4 storage is currently on sale at Best Buy for a whopping US$400 off the US$2,499.99 list price (courtesy of slickdeals). The resulting US$2,099.99 is the lowest price in 30 days per Honey’s price history tool.
Aside from the snappy CPU and GPU, the main draw of the ROG Strix G18 on offer is the massive 18-inch display that boasts a QHD+ resolution, an advertised 100% coverage of the DCI-P3 gamut, a 240 Hz refresh rate, and 3 ms response time. The display is also Pantone Validated and supports NVIDIA G-SYNC alongside a MUX switch.
In our testing, the ROG Strix G18’s panel lands close to its advertised specs with 98% coverage of the DCI-P3, 99.9% coverage of the sRGB, and 85.6% coverage of the AdobeRGB color gamut alongside
Thanks to a 24-core Core i9-13980HX and a 175 W RTX 4080, the ASUS ROG Strix G18 is bound to be a beast of a gaming laptop.
For starters, the Core i9-13980HX is one of the fastest mobile CPUs on the market with Cinebench R23 Multi-Core and Single-Core scores of 30,728 and 2080 respectively. In other words, the Core i9-13980HX will handle even the most intense tasks without slowing down.
The same is true for the RTX 4080 mobile. The 175 W RTX 4080 laptop GPU featured inside the ROG Strix G18 is only beaten by an RTX 4090 in gaming performance. Per our tests, the board has enough horsepower to play demanding games at QHD resolution with elevated graphics settings. For instance, the GPU pushed Baldur’s Gate 3, Ratchet & Clank Rift Apart, and Hogwarts Legacy at 111, 91, and 89 FPS at QHD/Ultra respectively.
Long story short, if you are after a high-end gaming machine with a big display, the ASUS ROG Strix G18 for US$2,099.99 seems like a pretty compelling option.
