It appears that Bose is preparing to release a new pair of flagship ANC headphones. Dubbed the QuietComfort Ultra, the headphones feature design changes from the QuietComfort 45 and the Headphones 700, which are reached their second and fourth birthdays, respectively.
Leaker Kuba Wojciechowski has shared a marketing render of what he claims to be the QuietComfort Ultra, an unreleased pair of over-ear headphones codenamed ‘Lone Starr’. So far, the leaker has shared one marketing render and a few other details. However, plenty remains unknown about the QuietComfort Ultra for now and how Bose will distinguish it from the QuietComfort 45 and the Headphones 700 that it released in 2021 and 2019, respectively.
Arguably, the QuietComfort Ultra shares more visually with the QuietComfort 45 than the Headphones 700. For example, the headband and accompanying hinge mechanism surround each earcup rather than slotting between them as occurs on the Headphones 700. The QuietComfort Ultra seems to have even more headband cushioning than either model though, as well as a textured outer material covering the headband like the Sennheiser Momentum 4. Conversely, it looks like the QuietComfort Ultra retains the earpad design of other Bose headphones.
Wojciechowski has not revealed any QuietComfort Ultra specifications, with the leaker adding that the headphones appear ‘to be in its early stages of development’. Still, the photo highlights that the QuietComfort Ultra has repositioned microphone grilles compared to the QuietComfort 45. These are joined by long slits beneath the bottom of the hinge, which we suspect will aid background noise suppression. In other words, we would not be surprised if Bose marketed the QuietComfort Ultra as being more comfortable than its predecessor while also offering improved noise cancellation. Unfortunately, a release date seems a way off at this stage.
