A couple of new Sony Xperia 1 V leaks have surfaced, with one somewhat sketchy leak matching a prediction made by a well-known Xperia commenter. While a supposed Geekbench record offers exciting news for the Xperia 1 V, a couple of other sources have bemoaned how boring the 2023 Xperia flagship will be in other areas.
Back in October, the well-known Xperia leaker ZACKBUKS offered up a guess of what the Sony Xperia 1 V specifications would be. In charge of proceedings would be a Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 chip with 16 GB of RAM for support. Storage was predicted at 256 GB and 512 GB options, while the main camera system was put down as potentially 48 MP + 12 MP + 12 MP. The tipster offered no prediction about the design but guessed the Xperia 1 V release date would be in summer 2023 with the device coming with Android 13.
Xperia fans would certainly be excited about having 16 GB of RAM to play with alongside Qualcomm’s latest and greatest mobile chipset, while a boost for the main camera sensor to 48 MP would be a shock considering Sony’s history with its Xperia 1 line. However, while the former details have some support, another leaker has contradicted the latter. A Geekbench record has been shared on Reddit that is supposedly for a Sony device, although the model information has been removed. The remaining part reveals an SD 8 Gen 2 processor, which has seemingly been tweaked to 3.26 GHz for the prime core, and it is shown that this unnamed phone has 16 GB of RAM.
Both of these would be significant for the Xperia 1 V, as it would have the selling points of an overclocked flagship processor (as is rumored for the Samsung Galaxy S23 series) and a greater amount of memory than its standard predecessor. There is a variant of the Xperia 1 IV that comes with 16 GB RAM but this Gaming Edition model is not available globally. But with the potential good news comes potential bad news: It has been reported that the Xperia 1 V’s camera will feature “minimal and boring” upgrades. If this is true, then the presence of a 48 MP sensor in the 2023 Xperia 1’s camera equipment seems very unlikely.
It is already widely expected that the Sony Xperia 1 V will follow the same design language as the Xperia 1 IV, with a leaked prototype of a mysterious Xperia phone that could end up being the Mark 5 Xperia 1 being described as “boring” by another commenter. But then there are many that will want Sony to keep the same look for its flagship Xperia device as it stands out of the cluttered Android smartphone crowd and has a distinguished appeal to it. The rest of ZACKBUKS’s guesses for the Sony Xperia 1 V specs can be seen in the machine-translated image posted below along with a great concept video uploaded by Science and Knowledge.
