The 2023 model of the Omen 17, which is a high-end gaming laptop, uses the case we already know from the predecessor but includes current hardware, with Raptor Lake and Ada Lovelace driving the laptop.
A Core i9-13900HX processor, GeForce RTX 4080 Laptop graphics core, and 32 GB of RAM (DDR5-5600, dual-channel mode) equip the laptop for video processing, rendering, and gaming. A fast PCIe 4 SSD (1 TB) provides the necessary storage space and ensures short load times. The matte QHD display (17.3 in, IPS, 165 Hz, sRGB) left a good impression in our test.
The hardware is able to bring all the current games to the screen smoothly, while you can select the full display resolution of 2,560 x 1,440 pixels and high to maximum settings. Higher resolutions would also be possible if you connect a corresponding monitor – the Omen offers up to three video output ports.
The battery can also be charged using a universal USB-C charger (min. 65 W, 20 V). The Thunderbolt 4 port supports Power Delivery (and is also able to output a DisplayPort signal). This would also allow you to leave the hefty 330-Watt charger at home. In addition, the port opens up some expansion options in form of a docking solution or external GPU.
The preinstalled Omen Gaming Hub software, which is the control center of the laptop, also offers the option for undervolting, allowing you to run the CPU with lower voltages than specified by the manufacturer, which results in a lower power consumption and heat development. However, dropping the voltage too low can result in an instable or faulty system, so you always do this at your own risk.
