“Mad Disrespectful”: Just as Gabe Vincent Steals Jimmy Butler’s Spotlight, Angry Draymond Green Takes Offence Despite Praises

Game 3 between the Boston Celtics and the Miami Heat turned out to be another lopsided game. After taking the first two games in TD Garden, the Miami Heat took a commanding 3-0 lead in the seven-game series. The Miami Heat have formed a roster out of players that were overlooked. So, as Gabe Vicent shines in the spotlight instead of Jimmy Butler, it ended up triggering Warriors star, Draymond Green.

The Miami Heat have played the underdog card to perfection, being the eighth seed. But for Game 3, Heat guard Gabe Vincent really outperformed everyone on the court, including his teammates as well. So, how did Draymond Green perceive it as disrespectful?

Draymond Green is not happy with the narrative

The Miami Heat and the rest of the squad came out with purpose right from the start. The Heat scored 30+ points for all the first three quarters to build a strong lead by the time the fourth quarter arrived.

One player that took center stage in Game 3 wasn’t Jimmy Butler but Gabe Vincent instead. Vincent went off for a career-high performance, torching the entire Celtics team throughout the game. The 6’3 point guard was applauded for his efforts throughout the game and even after.

While it was nice to see Vincent get the attention, Golden State Warriors star Draymond Green wasn’t happy with the narrative surrounding him. Given that Gabe Vincent went undrafted, Green wasn’t happy with it being constantly brought up.

The four-time NBA champion went to Twitter to share his frustration. Green tweeted, “This undrafted player stuff is mad disrespectful to those guys. Them boys making a living just like everybody else.”

Given how the ‘undrafted player’ has been playing in these playoffs so far, Draymond Green may have a point after all. 

Jimmy Butler and the Heat winning it all with overlooked players

After the injury to Tyler Herro in the first round of the NBA playoffs, many were quick to give up on the Heat. However, head coach Erik Spoelstra has done an amazing job drafting players that had been overlooked.

The Heat have a total of seven undrafted players, three of which are performing splendidly these playoffs. Max Strus, Caleb Martin, and Gabe Vicent all went undrafted but the Heat front office saw their potential and talent regardless.

Even Duncan Robinson is another player on the Heat’s roster that went undrafted but got a huge contract afterward. So, it’s just the eye that the Heat’s scouting and training staff possess to see talent where others tend to miss out.
