Kason Thomass, the 5-month-old baby who was kidnapped along with his twin while they were inside a car robbed Monday, was found safe and sound in Indianapolis Thursday, just hours after the suspect was taken into custody, according to a statement from the Columbus Police Division.
“The 5-month-old boy is in good health and is being transported to a hospital for check-up,” police said in a tweet. “We are grateful to the public for their assistance throughout this investigation, and for the tireless work of our agents and our many agency partners,” he added.
The baby and his twin, Kason and Kyair Thomass, were inside a black 2010 Honda Accord Monday night when their mother was picking up an order from a restaurant while working as a DoorDash driver.
The mother, Wilhelmina Barnett, left the restaurant to find the car missing, along with her twins. Kyair was found abandoned near the Dayton International Airport around 4:15 a.m. Tuesday. But his brother did not appear until Thursday.
They arrest and charge the suspect in the kidnapping
The woman suspected of stealing a car that was carrying 5-month-old twins inside was arrested this Thursday in Indianapolis, but one of the children was not located with her at the time, Columbus police said Thursday. arrested at about 2 p.m. Thursday by officers with the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department (IMPD) after officers received multiple tips that she was in the area, said Columbus Police Chief, Elaine Bryant, during a press conference.
Later Thursday, Kason was found in the stolen Honda Accord with the same clothes that, according to the descriptions, she was wearing on Monday.
Jackson, 24, was charged with two delinquent serious cough of kidnapping.
Since Jackson crossed state lines, he will face federal charges, Bryant said.
Witnesses gave clues to the suspect
Late Thursday morning, the department’s hotline received several calls from people in Indiana who believed they had seen Jackson in Indianapolis and officers “implored” witnesses to call the 911. The IMPD informed Columbus police around 2 p.m. that they had arrested a person they believed to be Jackson, and the two departments worked together to identify him before taking him into custody, Weir said.
“If you have any information regarding this crime or the whereabouts of this baby, please contact us as soon as possible,” Weir said, adding that three detectives from the Columbus Division of Police are traveling to Indianapolis to coordinate with IMPD and the FBI to advance the investigation.
Indiana will issue an Amber Alert requesting information that may help locate Kason and the missing vehicle, Weir said.
The vehicle had a torn Ohio license plate sticker on the rear bumper and a white one that It says “Westside City Toys”.
Authorities said the car is believed to have been in an accident previously and has damage and purple paint transfer on her left side.
