A device newly registered by Motorola with the US Federal Communications Commission (FCC) is thought to be the brand’s next high-end Android smartphone due to its exceptionally fast top charging rate. It also has other features seen in its putative predecessor the Edge X30, also known as the 30 Pro.
Motorola released an early-year flagship smartphone as the the Edge X30 in China and subsequently as the Edge 30 Pro, hot on the heels of its own Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 top-end processor. Now, the OEM is expected to do much the same with a 40-series upgrade, especially now the 8 Gen 2 has debuted.
More evidence of this launch may have just surfaced courtesy of the FCC. The new Motorola device just approved by the regulator is a mobile device called the XT2301-4. Its new documentation reveals that it supports 5G, NFC, Bluetooth – and 125W wired charging.
This is the fastest mobile standard Motorola does, and, thus, may indicate that this XT-2301 will launch as the Edge 40 Pro in markets such as the US. It also has wireless and reverse wireless charging, which may not be surprising as they also featured in the 30 Pro.
On the other hand, the FCC notes that the smartphone supports Wi-Fi up to 6E, whereas the 8 Gen 2 now officially supports Wi-Fi 7. Therefore, this new Motorola smartphone’s status as a pre-Ultra flagship could still be in doubt.
