Philips claims that its new crowdfunding campaign for the Screeneo U5 took just five minutes to achieve its goal. The new successor to the U4 (also launched on Indiegogo) upgrades to a 4K UHD resolution and an image of up to 150 inches. It has an impressively high max brightness rating and has a UI based on Android 11.

Philips is on Indiegogo again with another new ultra-short-throw projector touted to produce a home-theater experience without the need to move a huge screen into a room. It is rated to improve on its U4 predecessor with the ability to recreate a 150-inch “true4K UHD resolution screen from just 16.5 inches away from a given wall.

Alternatively, the latest addition to the Screeneo laser-powered line-up can throw a 120-inch window from 11 inches away. Philips asserts that it can achieve 2,200 ANSI lumens of brightness at most, and adheres to the Rec.709 color space.

It also supports Dolby Vision, HDR10 and “FlowMotion 4 MEMC+” technology; specs that have helped the U5 attract ~US$567,000 in backing to date.

The Philips Screeneo U5 has a ‘normal’ price of €3,299 (~US$3,297), although there are some ultra-limited units with a 48% discount left on its Indiegogo page as a Black Friday deal at the time of writing.
