Redmi has introduced its 2022 budget tablet in its native market of China today (October 27, 2022) alongside the new Note 12 series of smartphones. The metal unibody slate has a 10.6-inch 2K 90Hz display, quad speakers and up-to-date MIUI Pad 13 software, yet will be released for less than US$160 as a special offer for the upcoming 11.11 sales event.
Redmi’s eponymous Pad started out in Europe, and has now also made it to China as part of the major product event of today (October 27, 2022). Thanks to this timing, not to mention its OEM’s imminent annual 11.11 price-drop announcements, it has launched as a particularly affordable new Android tablet in its latest market.
On that note, Redmi asserts that a consumer invests in a tablet for its screen, which is why its “entry-level” Pad is graced with a 90Hz refresh rate to enhance its 2000×1200 LCD display, kept on with an 8,000mAh battery with profoundly budget 18W charging.
It will run MIUI 13 for tablets out of the box, which allows for copying and pasting from app to app in split-screen view, not to mention the ecosystem “interconnection” that allows the Pad to easily pair and share its tasks and screen contents with other devices, the newly-launched Note 12 Pro or 200MP Pro Plus for example.
The Helio G99-powered slate will be released on October 31, 2022, just in time for it to get a seasonally-appropriate introductory pre-order price of just 1,099 yuan (~US$152). It will ship in gray, green or silver colorways for the same flat-edged “high-quality metal” build as its international variant.

I became a professional writer and editor shortly after graduation. My degrees are in biomedical sciences; however, they led to some experience in the biotech area, which convinced me of its potential to revolutionize our health, environment and lives in general. This developed into an all-consuming interest in more aspects of tech over time: I can never write enough on the latest electronics, gadgets and innovations. My other interests include imaging, astronomy, and streaming all the things. Oh, and coffee.
