A supposed prototype of Samsung’s next-gen foldable flagship Android smartphone has emerged online. The device has dimensions also allegedly associated with the S24 Ultra, its possible candy-bar counterpart, when closed. That would be a considerable departure from the current Galaxy Z Fold5, which is often criticized for its narrow secondary display.
Ice Universe now asserts that an earlier tip pointing to an ‘ultra-wide’ Galaxy S24 Ultra have been set in stone “by the supply chain“. In fact, Samsung might like the idea so much that it might apply it to its next-gen foldable line-up in 2024. However, while the famous leaker seemed quite hostile to the idea of the S23 Ultra’s successor getting even bigger, the same tone may have changed when presented with the possibility of a broader Z Fold6.
That might have something to do with the “prototype” in question being a breath of fresh air compared to the Galaxy Z Fold5, which has changed little in terms of design compared to the Z Fold4 (and the Fold3, for that matter). The concept device, now displayed in photo and video clip form on the Ice Universe Twitter feed, is also depicted as a flat-folding device.
On that note, an upgrade to an integrated S Pen silo seems beyond even this potentially advanced foldable device, even though its edges seem no thinner than those of the Z Fold5. It lacks a display punch-hole, but that might be due to its extremely preliminary nature. Nevertheless, a Z Fold6 with a design like this might make it the productivity powerhouse Samsung might hope for in the near future.

I became a professional writer and editor shortly after graduation. My degrees are in biomedical sciences; however, they led to some experience in the biotech area, which convinced me of its potential to revolutionize our health, environment and lives in general. This developed into an all-consuming interest in more aspects of tech over time: I can never write enough on the latest electronics, gadgets and innovations. My other interests include imaging, astronomy, and streaming all the things. Oh, and coffee.
