Trad veteran Des Moore to move on after 30 years

Scaffolding veteran Des Moore has stepped down from Trad Group after three decades to launch his own consultancy.

Moore became chief executive of Trad Group after the £100m business was acquired by Altrad Group in 2013.

Prior to that, he was managing director of the group for more than 15 years.

Starting out in the scaffolding trade shortly after leaving school at the age of 15, he worked through the ranks and became involved with the National Access and Scaffolding Confederation, where he served as president for two years.

He has set up consultancy MOR1X to share his expertise with businesses working towards sale or acquisition, firms preparing growth strategies and those requiring support with organisational change.

“I’m looking to move on to extend my career beyond Trad and do perhaps a number of non-executive-director-type positions, mentoring, consultancy work and so on,” he told CN.

“I have experience over many years in developing companies, operational and organisational changes and controls, mergers and acquisitions, and start-ups. You name it, really – I’ve gone through the whole raft of disciplines, from labourer to CEO.

“I want to be able to share my knowledge and experience with businesses that are ambitious for the next stage in their development – whether that’s sale, acquisition, strategic growth or improved profitability.

“I’m looking forward to working with ambitious companies and senior teams to help them set and reach their strategic targets.”

As a pioneer in talking about mental health in the scaffolding and construction sectors, he previously spoke to CN about the mental breakdown he suffered at the age of 26.

He is also a supporter of increasing diversity and inclusivity in traditional sectors.
