It appears that Samsung is finally ready to move on from tiny cover displays in its clamshell foldables. Based on various Galaxy Z Flip5 renders, Samsung will adopt a generously-sized cover display as it looks to see of competition from the likes off Oppo, Vivo and Motorola.

@OnLeaks has now published CAD-based renders of the Galaxy Z Flip5, not long after revealing equivalents for the Galaxy Z Fold5. While the latter is another refinement in the Galaxy Z series, the former promises to be a big step on from last year’s Galaxy Z Flip4, which tweaked its predecessor’s design. In comparison, @OnLeaks’ renders suggest that Samsung intends to take on the Galaxy Z Flip’s new competitors, like the Oppo Find N2 Flip and the forthcoming Motorola Razr 40 Ultra.

As expected, the Galaxy Z Flip5 has a much larger cover display than its predecessor. Reportedly, this panel measures 3.4-inches across, up from 1.9-inches in the Galaxy Z Flip3 and Galaxy Z Flip4. However, this year’s Galaxy Z Flip will fall short of the Razr 40 Ultra, which Motorola has already confirmed will feature a 3.5-inch cover display. The amount of usable space on both cover displays is up for debate though, with former’s tabbed look and the latter’s triple-punch hole arrangement.

The Galaxy Z Flip5 is also expected to launch with a 6.7-inch foldable display, matching all previous Galaxy Z Flip models. Reputedly, this year’s Galaxy Z Flip measures 165 x 71.8 x 6.7 mm when unfolded, which would be within 0.1-0.2 mm of its predecessor in all directions. The Galaxy Z Flip5 should close without a gap too, unlike earlier models. Additionally, the Galaxy Z Flip5 will launch with the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 for Galaxy, but it remains to be seen what other upgrades Samsung has planned for its next Galaxy Z Flip, such as improved cameras.
