The inaugural Nothing Phone had relatively limited availability on its launch, especially for a new Android smartphone. However, the start-up behind it has already made strides in this area with its next-gen flagship, according to a new leak. It purports to confirm the device’s name, model number and connectivity ahead of its imminent debut.

Any doubt that Nothing will unveil its 2023 flagship smartphone as a direct successor to the Phone (1) have reportedly been dispelled by Thailand’s National Broadcasting and Telecommunications Commission (NBTC). The regulator has indeed registered the Carl Pei-run OEM’s next device as the Phone (2).

This leak also seems to confirm that the new smartphone will have the model number A065 and can use 5G. That last property will most probably be supported by the Phone (2)’s processor, confirmed as the Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 in advance.

The device’s approval for use in Thailand may hint that Nothing has made progress on making the Phone (2) more widely available from its launch, whereas its predecessor only made a (heavily conditional) North American debut long after its initial release. In addition, the new leak may be a sign that the company is much more confident in anticipating demand for what will be its second ever Android smartphone.
