Audi has introduced the e-tron GT as its latest super-premium electric vehicle (EV) for the Chinese market. The luxury sedan has a dual-motor system rated to propel it from 0 to ~62 miles per hour (or 0 to 100 kilometers per hour (km/h)) in well under 5 seconds. It also has ultra-fast charging touted to be able to fill its battery by 75% in under 30 minutes.
Audi has waded into the ever-growing high-wattage, fast-charging EV market in China with the e-tron GT. The Volkswagen brand’s “progressive luxury” car is associated with a range of up to 488km thanks to a 93 kilowatt-hour (kWh) battery, rated to take just 22.5 minutes to charge from 5 to 80% thanks to 800V technology – so long as a compatible DC output is available.
The 5-door sedan does indeed have an equally fluid yet powerful look, although its classic 4-ring logo is squashed in above a prosthetic grille that does little to detract from the front-facing sensor array located underneath.
It is powered by dual electric motors rated for a total output of 305kW and 630 newton-meters (Nm) of torque, for an estimated 0-100km/h time of just 4.1 seconds – even if this does set it apart from the even more premium RS e-tron GT with a similar latency of 3.3 seconds.
That RS model is already available on the market at a starting price of well over US$200,000 (or 1,468,800 yuan) – which makes the e-tron GT look almost reasonable by comparison with a new base-model price of just 999,800 yuan (~US$140,000).
Then again, there is a Launch Edition of the newer car that seems more exclusive thanks to its limited 20-unit run – which also makes it more expensive at 1,099,800 yuan (~US$154,000).
