Key Facts

The System is an eight-part series on Kevin Keith, who is spending life in prison for a 1994 triple homicide, though there is “no physical evidence tying him to the crime,” the podcast’s description reads.

The Spotify-exclusive series released its third episode Monday, in which Kardashian interviewed Keith’s brother, seemingly driving its high ranking Tuesday.

Kardashian narrates the podcast with producer Lori Rothschild Ansaldi, and the show also includes interviews with experts on the case and reviews evidence and police interviews from the time of the murders.

The podcast’s second episode also ranked No. 1 on Spotify after the series’ launch earlier this month.

Rogan’s controversial podcast, also exclusive to Spotify, was the most popular series on Spotify last year.

Since Markle’s Archetypes launched exclusively on the platform in August, it has consistently ranked in the top spots on Spotify’s chart, dethroning Joe Rogan at least once.

Key Background

Kardashian began law school in 2018. Instead of attending a traditional university program, the reality TV mogul is undergoing a four-year-long law apprenticeship. Her interest in the field, particularly in criminal justice reform, was sparked when she joined the fight to get Alice Marie Johnson’s life prison sentence commuted in 2018.

Tangent

Bringing attention to a possibly unfair prison sentence has proved successful. Adnan Syed, whose conviction was the subject of the wildly popular podcast Serial in 2014, was released from prison last month and his sentence was vacated after he spent two decades behind bars for the murder of Hae Min Lee. Prosecutors announced Tuesday they were dropping the charges against him.

Forbes Valuation

Forbes estimates Kardashian to have a net worth of $1.8 billion, and it’s unclear how much her deal with Spotify is worth.
