During an interview on the Bootleg Kev Podcast, Saweetie says the culture of rap changed from fun party music to “I’mma do this to you and this.” She also adds male rap lacks “empathy and love.”

“I mean, L.A. and other cities, it just goes to show that this is the reason why women is running rap and hip-hop,” The “Best Friend” rapper said.

Moreover, Saweetie strongly believes there is “just so much violence and disrespect in the male music,” She also added, “ You gotta think, like, remember, what was it, like ’16/’17, remember when like YG, Tyga, Chris [Brown], Big Sean, TeeFlii was out? It was fun, party music.”

Recently, The Single Life rapper took to her social media to call out misogyny in hip-hop, where her Icy fans took no time to flood her comments with their two cents.

One fan commented, saying,

“Is hip hop the only genre being held to the highest standards? Hip hop is a reflection of society and society is misogynistic. This misogyny is seen in country, rock, and pop. It’s also in movies we watch.”

Another Twitter user even said hip-hop needs more women who don’t oversexualize themselves to get the respect they deserve within the industry.

Hip hop needs more female rappers like Missy Elliott, Little Simz, and Rapsody. Dope artists who don’t sexualize themselves and rap about real topics outside of sex. That’s how women will get their true respect. Offer more than your body. Sex isn’t the only thing that sells

From fans’ recent responses, it appears they disagree with the Icy girl rapper, and believe changes need to be made before women can take over.

Saweetie has been more unapologetic and spicy lately as she also recently addressed former Migos member Quavo and rapper Lil Baby in her new song, “Don’t Say Nothin.’”
