Travis Scott has been named headliner along with Skepta for the upcoming Mirror Mirror Festival in honor of the late Virgil Abloh.
Virgil Abloh Securities, founded by the late Virgil Abloh, has announced a one-day music festival called Mirror Mirror to honor his legacy. Travis Scott and Skepta will headline the event, with performances from Yves Tumor, Pedro, Venus X, Bambii, Rampa, Acyde, and Benji B. Mirror Mirror will take place on December 3 at the FPL Solar Amphitheater at Bayfront Park in Miami, Florida. Tickets are on sale starting today, with net profits supporting the Virgil Abloh Foundation.
An influential fashion designer and artistic director of Louis Vuitton’s menswear, Virgil Abloh was also the founder of Off-White and an occasional DJ. Abloh directed music videos and designed album covers for artists like Westside Gunn, Lil Uzi Vert, and Pop Smoke. Virgil Abloh passed away in November 2021 after living privately with cancer for several years.
“Virgil had the ability to bring everyone together to create magic,” says Shannon Abloh, the designer’s wife and CEO of Virgil Abloh Securities.
“With his close collaborators, we wanted to bring everyone together to celebrate Virgil — his legacy, his passion, and his care for others. He believed his real work was championing others, and we will continue his work supporting youth in the arts with the launch of the Virgil Abloh Foundation in 2023.”
Travis Scott’s headlining of the event is part of his slow return to festival stages following the Astroworld tragedy last year in which ten people lost their lives. Next year, he will also headline Rolling Loud California 2023 alongside Future and Playboi Carti.
The fallout of the Astroworld crowd crush tragedy on November 5, 2021, has led to a new potential agreement between Harris County and the City of Houston over NRG Park, the venue where the event took place and which overlaps jurisdictions of both Houston and Harris County. The new agreement focuses on events at the venue with more than 6,000 attendees and reviews “security, fire, life, and safety plans” of outdoor concerts at NRG Park.
“The problem started long before the crisis stage when it was finally acknowledged that this was out of control,” said Paul Wertheimer, founder of Crowd Management Strategies/Crowdsafe.
Event planners looking to utilize the venue will need to provide an “Event Security Plan or Event Medical Plan” and take part in regularly scheduled meetings with representation from the Houston Fire Department, Houston Police Department, Mayor’s Office of Special Events, Harris County Sherriff’s Office, Harris County Fire Marshal’s Office, NRG Park, and more.
