Police are continuing to investigate the murder of four University of Idaho students who were stabbed to death in a shared student house on November 13.
In the early hours of the morning an unknown attacker killed 21-year-olds Kaylee Goncalves and Madison Mogen, along with 20-year-old couple Xana Kernodle and Ethan Chapin.
Two other students on the first floor of the property, located in the college town of Moscow, were unharmed.
On Friday the Moscow Police Department confirmed it is yet to identify a suspect for the crime.
Concerned citizens have been discussing the case on social media platform Reddit, using the 17,200 strong r/idahomurders group.
User u/Sleuth58273 noted that both the Idaho attack, and a number of other stabbings, took place on or around the 13th day in a month, and asked whether this is a “coincidence or not?”
They wrote: “So, I was reading up on similar cases and there’s several that have similarities to the Idaho case.
“A couple stabbed in Oregon 13th of August, 2021, late at night by unknown male. The woman survived.
“Resident in Illnois stabbed in their sleep, happened before 3am June the 13th, 2021. The person survived.
“An older woman stabbed to death at her home in Washougal, Washington. Her body was found on June 14th, 2020.”
After listing the cases u/Sleuth58273 wrote: “All cases seem to involve an unknown male suspect with a knife late at night. The attacks seem to be tied to the same date: the 13th of some month. Or very close to it.
“And we know the Idaho stabbing happened 13th of November. I find the number thing so specifically odd that it can’t be a coincidence.”
Contrary to what u/Sleuth58273 posted, police have not identified the gender of the Idaho attacker.
On August 13, 2021, a couple were attacked at their home in the Oregon town of Salem, whilst they were asleep. Travis Juetten, 26, was killed whilst 24-year-old Jamilyn Juetten survived, despite suffering 19 stab wounds.
At a press conference on Thursday Moscow Police Department Chief James Frye said he had received a tip in relation to the Oregon attack.
However, in a separate statement released on Friday, Moscow Police said there is no evidence the two cases are connected.
Police said: “There have been numerous media inquiries about a 1999 double stabbing in Pullman, Washington, and the 2021 double stabbing (with one death) in Salem, Oregon.
“While these cases share similarities with the King Street homicides, there does not appear to be any evidence to support the cases are related.”
On June 13, 2021, a woman in Charleston, Illinois, was attacked by an intruder with a knife whilst asleep, at some time before 3 a.m. She survived the attack, managing to escape to a neighbors property.
Sandra Ladd, added 71, was found stabbed to death in her home, in the Washington state town of Washougal, on June 14, 2020.
Police have not made any connection between either the Charleston or Washougal attacks and the Idaho student murders.
Police on Wednesday revealed a man who Goncalves and Mogen called several times in the hours before their murder is not being treated as a suspect.
Speaking to the New York Times, Goncalves’s sister claimed it was her close relatives former boyfriend, who “absolutely had nothing to do with this at all.”
