St Marys Railway Station
Laing O’Rourke has been awarded an A$82.5m (£46.2m) contract to build a footbridge at St Marys Station on the Sydney Metro.
Work on the footbridge is expected to start in April 2023 and complete by the end of 2025.
It will enable passengers to transfer between new metro platforms and suburban trains, and link to a new pedestrian plaza and expanded multistorey car park.
The project is part of the creation of a West Sydney Airport line, which is due to form part of Sydney Metro.
The line is jointly funded by the Australian and New South Wales governments at an estimated cost of A$10.5bn and is intended to open when the airport opens in late-2026.
Laing O’Rourke is already working on the $2.16bn tunnel package for the West Sydney Airport line with joint venture partner Gamuda Australia.
Infrastructure, transport, regional development and local government minister Catherine King said: “St Marys Station will have an important role to play as a major transport gateway that will connect the Western Parkland City to the rest of Sydney.”
Sydney Metro is Australia’s largest public transport project, planned to provide a network of four lines, 46 stations and 113km of new railway by 2030. It currently has one operational line, which opened in 2019.
