(CNN Spanish) – Maná is one of the most recognized Latin American musical groups, not only on the continent, but worldwide. His music has been the protagonist of the lives of his followers for more than three decades. So many years in music and with so many hits present a sweet dilemma for the group: how to summarize their career in 20 songs?

“It’s a good problem,” says Alex González, Maná’s drummer, to Zona Pop CNN. “We have so many hits and there are also so many good songs within the albums that we have, that here the idea of this tour of Mexico Beautiful and beloved it is precisely finding songs that we haven’t played in years, revisiting them and bringing them to the tour and also, obviously, playing with the hits”, adds González.

The new thing that Maná brings on this tour

The tour, which began with several sold-out ticket offices, is far from the production of the residency that the group offered at the Kia Forum in Los Angeles.

“We want to bring certain elements of our Mexican culture in terms of stage design. It’s important to always come out with different, new things and obviously what I think is going to excite and surprise people is that suddenly we’re going to go with songs like saying ‘wow, I don’t know this one since 1994 we haven’t played it; since I don’t know, since 2003’, so it’s that kind of emotion, it’s great to see what, how people react”, adds González.

The tour, says the drummer, is Maná’s celebration of life after the new coronavirus pandemic that paralyzed the world for a couple of years.

“To be able to go out again, to tour, to be able to meet our beloved and beloved public again, to remember those people who are no longer with us, because both us and millions of people have left, unfortunately. It is a way of remembering them, of celebrating them and at the same time we celebrate that we are still alive on the planet here and able to continue living and doing the things we like”, adds González.

The tour also has an altruistic imprint as Maná will donate a portion of the proceeds from his concerts to Latinos affected by last month’s flooding in Northern California.

Maná’s reaction to the fury of the public

Going to a concert by this Mexican group is like being in a collective karaoke where the audience, in unison and at the top of their lungs, rips out their throats while performing some of the hits.

And without a doubt, the members of Maná take note and are even surprised by the collective reaction to some of their hits.

Sergio Vallín, the band’s guitarist, is always surprised by the reaction of his fans to three of his hits.

I cried a whole river It’s been a while since we played it and now that we’re playing it on this tour it’s been very, very, very exciting how people sing it. Of course, streaking the sun, The San Blas Pier. It is that really in each and every one of the songs it is beautiful to listen to the people, as they are part of the songs, they are part of their life, so they sing them with the song of the heart”, Vallín told Zona Pop CNN.

“Maná’s songs have become the soundtrack of the people and you can perfectly remember who you were with, where you were, you even remember the smell of where you were. One travels back in time with Maná’s songs and they will also live in the present when we release the most recent songs or the new album. That is incredible”, adds González.

Two new records just around the corner

Maná started a duet project about three years ago in which they perform some of their hits together with singers like Pablo Alborán or Joy Huerta from Jesse & Joy. That project is called “Cantina Nights,” says González.

This production, according to the drummer, will come out in the course of 2023. Since 2020 the group has been launching some of these collaborations, among which are:

  • Pablo Alborán in “Rayando el Sol”
  • Sebastián Yatra in “It hasn’t stopped raining”
  • Joy Huerta in “You are my religion”
  • Mabel with “The cuckoo clock”
  • Alejandro Fernández interprets “Treacherous Butterfly”
  • Christian Nodal sings “I cried a river for you”

In addition, González says, Maná will be entering the recording studio this summer for what will be an album with unpublished music.

“For the summer we are going to lock the band up (to) start working on demos and ideas and everything that we can think of, for a new studio album that will be recorded at the end of 2023 to release it in 2024,” he says. Gonzalez.

This will be the first studio album with unpublished songs that the group has released since 2015, when they released the album “La cama incendiada”.

“Patience, but hold on, because here we come with everything,” adds González.
