The OPPO Reno9 Pro Plus (or Pro+) has launched with aims to become the most premium Android smartphone of its line thus far. To this end, it has become the only device in which the Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 is augmented by an in-house MariSilicon X image signal processor (ISP). Furthermore, even its base model boasts 16GB of LPDDR5 RAM.

The OPPO Reno series has a new flagship today (November 24, 2022). The 9 Pro+ is the OEM’s inaugural Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1-powered smartphone, and is also its latest MariSiicon X-augmented device.

The “Dual Core” system is turned to the purposes of portrait photography in the Pro+, the only Reno9 series member with 3 rear cameras. Its 50MP main sensor is yet another Sony 50MP sensor with 1-micron pixels, OIS and phase-detect auto-focus, backed up by 8MP ultrawide-angle and 2MP depth-sensing lenses.

Despite the top-end dual-chip system of the Reno9 Pro+, its curved 6.7-inch display lacks Corning Gorilla Glass protection. It is FHD+ OLED, at least, with an up-to-120Hz refresh rate and 800 nits in terms of rated max brightness, and a 32MP punch-hole camera for more Dual Core portrait action.

The screen is kept on thanks to a 4,700mAh battery with a new “Longevity” version of OPPO’s 80W SuperVOOC charging technology that is also compatible with USB-PD and QC 3.0 speeds. However, the most interesting upgrade is probably the leap to 16GB SKUs in a successor to a sub-flagship mobile device.

There are just 2 of them, with either 256GB or 512GB of UFS 3.1 internal storage. They have been priced at 3,999 to 4,399 yuan (~US$537-591). They can be reserved in their refined AG glass design and in 3 color options from OPPO’s Chinese sales channels from now.
