The Galaxy Z Flip5 and Galaxy Z Fold5 are months away from release. However, several leaked benchmark listings. Based on the Geekbench listings, Samsung plans to release the pair later this year with the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 for Galaxy, the same chipset that the company offers in the Galaxy S23, Galaxy S23 Plus and the Galaxy S23 Ultra.
Samsung is not expected to announce replacements for the Galaxy Z Flip4 or Galaxy Z Fold4 until late summer, with August a likely candidate for the company’s next Galaxy Unpacked event. In the meantime, apparent early Galaxy Z Flip5 and Galaxy Fold5 models have appeared on Geekbench under the model numbers SM-F731U and SM-F946U, respectively. For some reason, while there is a single SM-F946U listing, there are seven examples of the SM-F731U across Geekbench 6 CPU and Geekbench 6 Compute.
Based on the listings released so far, it would seem that Samsung will return to offering its foldable smartphones with the same chipset as its flagship Galaxy S series. To recap, Samsung released the Galaxy Z Flip3 and Galaxy Z Fold3 with the Snapdragon 888, mirroring the Galaxy S21 series outside Europe. However, the Galaxy Z Flip4 and Galaxy Z Fold4 arrived last August with the Snapdragon 8 Plus Gen 1, which delivered several advantages over the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 in the Galaxy S22 series.
According to Geekbench, the Galaxy Z Flip5 and Galaxy Z Fold5 will rely on the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 for Galaxy, a higher-clocked version of the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 that Samsung already offers across the Galaxy S23 series. Hence, Samsung’s fifth-generation foldables and the Galaxy S23 series should offer comparable performance. Incidentally, Geekbench outlines that the Galaxy Z Flip5 will feature 8 GB of RAM, with 12 GB of RAM on offer to the Galaxy Z Fold5. Other upgrades should be headed to the Galaxy Z Flip5 and Galaxy Z Fold5, such as refined displays, an eliminated gap when closed and a larger cover display for the Galaxy Z Flip5 than its predecessor.
