LATEST NEWS

Sept. 16: RF Ronald Acuña Jr. out of lineup, unavailable off bench vs. Marlins
Acuña, who left as a precaution with right calf tightness in the eighth inning of the Braves’ series-opener loss to the Marlins on Friday, was out of the starting lineup and unavailable off the bench on Saturday, per manager Brian Snitker. Acuña reportedly felt better, but the club wants to be careful with its star player.

Sept. 13: LHP Jared Shuster recalled; RHP AJ Smith-Shawver optioned to Triple-A Gwinnett
Shuster was brought up because he can provide more length than Smith-Shawver, who has completed just two-thirds of an inning for Triple-A Gwinnett since going on the Minor League injured list after his Aug. 15 start. Shuster will be available out of the bullpen over the next few days. If he isn’t used, he’d be a candidate to start Saturday’s game in Miami.

Sept. 12: LHP Dylan Lee placed on 15-day injured list with left shoulder inflammation
The Braves put Lee on the 15-day injured list one day after optioning him to Triple-A Gwinnett. They voided the option while making this latest move. Lee retired just nine of the 16 batters he faced during the four September appearances he made after ending a previous injured list stint at the start of this month. The left-hander had been sidelined since mid-May with left shoulder discomfort.

Sept. 11: RHP Kyle Wright activated; LHP Dylan Lee optioned; RHP Daysbel Hernández transferred to 60-day IL
Wright was activated from the 60-day IL to start the second game of Monday’s day-night doubleheader against the Phillies. He had been sidelined since developing discomfort in his right shoulder during his May 3 start against the Marlins. To create a spot on the 40-man, the Braves transferred Hernández to the 60-day IL. Lee hasn’t been effective since missing more than three months with inflammation in his left shoulder, allowing five runs (four earned) over 3 1/3 innings since rejoining the bullpen.

Sept. 11: RHP Jackson Stephens’ contract purchased; Michael Soroka transferred to 60-day IL; Allan Winans optioned
Stephens was brought up to provide bullpen depth for Monday’s day-night doubleheader. To create a spot on the 40-man, Soroka was moved to the 60-day IL. Winans was optioned after providing an effective start in Sunday’s win over the Pirates.

INJURY UPDATES

10-day and 15-day IL

LHP Dylan Lee (left shoulder inflammation)
Expected return: TBD
Lee missed more than three months with a shoulder ailment before returning to Atlanta’s roster at the start of September. He made four appearances before being placed back on the injured list. This second ailment creates reason to doubt he could factor into Atlanta’s postseason plans. (Last updated: Sept. 12)

RHP Collin McHugh (right shoulder inflammation)
Expected return: TBD
McHugh is back on the injured list with right shoulder inflammation for the second time this year. The veteran reliever was very effective last year. But as his strikeout rate has dropped and his walk rate has risen this season, he has positioned himself to possibly not be on the postseason roster. (Last updated: Sept. 6)

60-day IL

RHP Michael Soroka (right forearm inflammation)
Expected return: TBD
Soroka’s injury woes were extended on Sept. 5, when he exited a start against the Cardinals because of numbness in his right hand. The right-hander underwent further tests on his elbow and forearm on Sept. 6. This latest ailment clouds the future of the injury-prone hurler, who returned to Atlanta’s pitching staff in May, after missing nearly three years. He tore his right Achilles tendon in August 2020 and again in June 2021. He was transferred to the 60-day IL to create roster room prior to a doubleheader vs. Philadelphia. (Last updated: Sept. 11)

RHP Daysbel Hernández (right forearm inflammation)
Expected return:
TBD
Hernández was placed on the 15-day IL on Aug. 2 (retroactive to Aug. 1) with right forearm inflammation, which is a cause for concern given the righty reliever underwent Tommy John surgery in February 2022. He threw 3 2/3 innings with the Braves this season before landing on the IL. The Braves moved him to the 60-day IL to make room for the return of Kyle Wright to the 40-man. (Last updated: Sept. 11)

RHP Yonny Chirinos (right elbow inflammation)
Expected return: TBD
Chirinos complained of a sore elbow after he allowed four runs in four innings against the Giants on Aug. 19. He has posted a 9.27 ERA in five starts since joining the Braves — having completed five innings in just two of those outings. He was transferred to the 60-day injured list on Sept. 5. (Last updated: Sept. 5)

OF Ehire Adrianza (left shoulder strain)
Expected return: TBD
Adrianza played in just five games with the Braves this season before straining his shoulder, then hit .357 in a four-game rehab stint with High-A Rome before being moved to the 60-day IL. He restarts his rehab assignment with Rome on Sept. 5. (Last updated: Sept. 5)

OF Sam Hilliard (right heel contusion)
Expected return: Possibly the postseason
Hilliard was transferred to 60-day injured list to create a 40-man roster spot for left-handed reliever Dylan Lee on Sept. 1. The outfielder re-injured his right heel while playing a rehab game for Triple-A Gwinnett on Aug. 5. It is unknown how much more time he might miss with this setback. He originally bruised the heel when his right foot jammed into the first-base bag during a July 18 loss to the D-backs. (Last updated: Sept. 1)

RHP Nick Anderson (right shoulder strain)
Expected return
: September
Anderson has been sent to the Spring Training complex in Florida to accelerate his preparations to rejoin Atlanta’s bullpen. Braves manager Brian Snitker said the reliever is further along than he anticipated when he first learned about the veteran’s shoulder ailment in July.  A MRI exam showed the strain. (Last updated: Aug. 18)

RHP Jesse Chavez (left shin contusion)
Expected return:
TBD
Chavez is throwing off a mound, but it appears he is still at least a couple of weeks away from returning to the Braves’ bullpen since his left shin was badly bruised by a comebacker from Miguel Cabrera on June 14. Like with Lee, it might be easier for the Braves to activate Chavez when rosters expand in September. (Last updated: Aug 14)

LHP Kolby Allard (left shoulder nerve inflammation)
Expected return: TBD
Allard exited in the second inning against the White Sox on July 16 and was placed on the 60-day injured list, retroactive to July 17, with left shoulder nerve inflammation. There’s a chance this could be a season-ending injury for Allard, who opened the season on the 60-day IL with an oblique strain. (Last updated: July 18)

LHP Tyler Matzek (Tommy John surgery)
Expected return:
2024
Matzek has been playing catch for the past few weeks, but the plan remains for him to miss this season. (Last updated: June 20)

RHP Huascar Ynoa (Tommy John surgery)
Expected return:
2024
Ynoa is recovering from surgery. (Last updated: April 7)
