Washington, D.C. District Judge Tanya Chutkan denied trial dates proposed by former President Donald Trump’s legal team and Justice Department lawyers for his federal election interference case—one of two high-profile hearings Monday in Trump’s cases in Georgia and D.C.

Chutkan told Trump’s legal team and lawyers for Special Counsel Jack Smith’s office that neither proposed trial date is “acceptable,” according to multiple reports.
The Justice Department proposed a January 2 trial date in the case, while Trump’s lawyers requested an April 2026 trial date in the case charging him with four felonies related to his efforts to block President Joe Biden’s 2020 election win.
Chutkan heard arguments from both sides during Monday’s hearing and is expected to make a decision on a case schedule some time Monday.
What To Watch For
In a separate hearing in Atlanta on Monday, attorneys for Trump’s former Chief of Staff Mark Meadows—one of 18 co-defendants indicted alongside Trump by a Fulton County grand jury on August 14 for their efforts to overturn Biden’s win in Georgia—are expected to argue his case should be moved to federal court.
