Despite some significant action over the weekend there hasn’t been too much movement in the latest update to the revamped PTO World Rankings.
IRONMAN Texas and Challenge Gran Canaria were the headline events while Challenge Taiwan, IRONMAN 70.3 Peru and Peniscola Infinitri also took place.
PTO #1 Ashleigh Gentle could only finish third in the last-named but she stays top of the pile for now ahead of the PTO European Open in Ibiza in a fortnight’s time.

Texas stars on the up
The big mover is Kat Matthews, who incredibly won IRONMAN Texas less than seven months after being hit by a car when on a training ride in the Lone Star State.
She’s up five places at #8 and back into the top 10.

Jocelyn McCauley was a fine third in Texas on her own comeback from injury and rises two to #16 while runner-up Maja Stage Nielsen jumps from #42 to #21.
Anne Haug notched her second dominant success of the season when winning in Gran Canaria but that didn’t quite earn her enough points to boost her ranking so she stays unchanged at #5.
There’s less movement on the men’s side – Texas winner Rudy von Berg is the only change in the top 20 as he leaps from #32 to #20.
How do the PTO Rankings work?
This is not just about kudos – the top 50 athletes are fighting it out for a bonus pool worth a cool $2million in the ‘Race For The Rankings’. This will be dished out based on rankings at the end of 2023.
Each athlete has a points total which is an average of their three best races during the ranking period and all aspects of the process are covered here.

That first year saw Jan Frodeno and Daniela Ryf top the pandemic-impacted rankings – Men | Women.
