ViewSonic has launched a new line of tablets pitched at creators who want a device just for writing or drawing on the go (or “pen tablets”), one of which is now touted as the most portable 12-inch iteration of this category on the market. The ID1230 is joined by 7-inch (PF720) and 10-inch (PF1020) counterparts, each of which feature advanced pressure sensitivity, multiple hotkeys and USB type-C support.
ViewSonic backs itself to release displays fit for the most professional-grade creators out there. Now, the California-based hardware OEM seeks to augment that reputation with new purpose-made portable displays mainly intended for “work such as architectural models, 3D renders, visual art, and graphic design“.
The flagship of this new “pen tablet” line-up, the ID1230, the only one with an active display, whereas the others just work as graphical slates. It is touted to pack “studio-grade color performance” with up to 90% of the Adobe RGB color gamut and 85% of the NTSC color-space. Plus, at ~600 grams (g), it is also slated as the lightest 12-inch drawing slate available. The PF720 and PF1020 are no heavyweights either, though, at ~190g and ~380g respectively.
All 3 tablets come with “precise digitizer pens” that support their “unprecedented” 8,192-level pressure sensitivity. Each one has ±60° tilt support, for greater adaptability and comfort in the user’s drawing/writing experience.
They also have several hotkeys (5 in the PF720 or 8 each in the PF1020 and ID1230) for multiple handy short-cuts, as well as USB type-C for charging, data-transfer or mirroring functions, compatible with any up-to-date PC or 4K monitor – although their maker obviously recommends a ColorPro external display for these purposes.
Pricing and availability for these new portable pen tablets should be forthcoming from ViewSonic soon. For context, its existing 7- and 13.3-inch pen tablets currently start at US$241 on Amazon.
